چکیده

We compare the measured peculiar velocities of 98 local (< 150h Mpc) type Ia supernovae (SNIa) with predictions derived from the PSCz. There is excellent agreement between the two datasets with a best fit βI (= Ω 0.6 m /bI) of 0.55±0.06. Subsets of the SNIa dataset are further analysed and the above result is found to be robust with respect to culls by distance, host-galaxy extinction and to the reference frame in which the analysis is carried out. We briefly review the peculiar motions in the direction of the Great Attractor. Most clusters in this part of the sky out to a distance of 14,000 km s, i.e. those closer than the Shapley Concentration, have sizable positive peculiar velocities, i.e. (∼ +400 km s). There are nine local SNIa in the GA direction that are in the foreground of Shapley. All these SNIa have positive peculiar velocities. Hence both the cluster and local SNIa data strongly support the idea of a sizable flow into Shapley.

Evidence was presented recently suggesting that the Fundamental Plane (FP) clusters studied in the Hubble Key Project may contain quantized intrinsic redshift components that are related to those reported by Tifft. Here we report the results of a similar analysis using 55 spiral (Sc and Sb) galaxies, and 36 Type Ia supernovae (SnIa) galaxies. We find that even when many more objects are include...

Features in Dark Energy Equation of State and Modulations in the Hubble Diagram

We probe the time dependence of the dark energy equation of state (EOS) in light of three-year WMAP (WMAP3) and the combination with other tentative cosmological observations from galaxy clustering (SDSS) and Type Ia Supernova (SNIa). We mainly focus on cases where the EOS is oscillating or with local bumps. By performing a global analysis with the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method, we fin...

Octodon Degus: A Strong Attractor for Alzheimer Research

The most popular animal models of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are transgenic mice expressing human genes with known mutations which do not represent the most abundant sporadic form of the disease. An increasing number of genetic, vascular and psychosocial data strongly support that the Octodon degus, a moderate-sized and diurnal precocial rodent, provides a naturalistic model for the study of the ...

Attractor Based Analysis of Centrally Cracked Plate Subjected to Chaotic Excitation

The presence of part-through cracks with limited length is one of the prevalent defects in the plate structures. Due to the slight effect of this type of damages on the frequency response of the plates, conventional vibration-based damage assessment could be a challenging task. In this study for the first time, a recently developed state-space method which is based on the chaotic excitation is ...

Galaxy Distances in the Nearby Universe: Corrections for Peculiar Motions

By correcting the redshift–dependent distances for peculiar motions through some peculiar velocity field models, we recover the true distances of an extensive, all-sky sample of nearby galaxies (∼ 6400 galaxies with recession velocities cz < 5500 km s−1 ), which is complete up to the apparent limiting blue magnitude B = 14 mag. Relying on available catalogs of galaxy groups, we treat ∼2700 obje...
